The Egg Nog Alternative Contest Winner is...

December 01, 2008 |

The response to last week's SAY NO TO NOG challenge has been astounding: Scores of Cordarounds customers have stuffed our inbox with delicious eggnog alternatives, and scores more have nogged and feathered eggnog industry officials.

The winner: David Palmer from San Francisco.

The DEC 11th Advent special:  As you can see, David is wearing Cordarounds' black sheep sweater.   We don't have many of these left at all, but if you happen to be on the smaller size of large (since these sweaters are made to wee Irish specifications) you can knock another $10 off the already low price of $90 by typing ME GUSTA HORCHATA into the comments section of the order form.    We'll add the discount when we process your order.

Ingredients

1/4 Cup Skinless Almonds
1 Cup Long Grain Rice
1 Cinnamon Stick
2 Cups Water
4 Cups Water
Sugar (to taste)
1/4 Teaspoon Vanilla

Blend almonds, rice (uncooked), and cinnamon stick to a powder.  It's
easy to use a coffee grinder if you don't want to use a blender.  Stir
these three together in a bowl.

Add two cups or water to powdery mixture and blend together for about
20 seconds.

Strain through a filter of sorts: cheese cloth, coffee filter, tea
press, sock.  This is important so it doesn't have a chalky texture.

Now mix the 4 cups of water to the strained portion.

Stir in the sugar and vanilla until it has a 1-2% milk consistency.
Also, make it sweet - it's good that way.

If something seems off you might want to add some rum which changes
the drink from Horchata to a Rice Rocket.
